Symphony #5 is a choreographed piece, with set groups of instruments moving from the stage to preset places in the hall over the course of the piece. All choreography is mapped and explained in the score. The thirty-four individual movements (some of which must be memorized so that players may move while playing) sometimes overlap but generally go in order. Any portion or the whole of the piece may be excerpted or performed in a non-choreographed concert version as well.
