Commissioned by the Big Ten Band Directors Association in 1983 and dedicated to H. Owen Reed, teacher and friend, on his 75th birthday. The “Deep River” movement is dedicated to the astronauts killed in the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion on January 28, 1986.
